Ladakh in Floods

Here we go, actually wanted to update photos but, internet conections, electricity, bridges, roads and rivers are giving big headaches due to the floods in this usually dry and arid country. Back to some basics. I left Nepal 3 weeks ago to get out for some paddeling in Ladakh (India) to avoid most of the monsoon rains. After having had some high water runs on the lower and upper Indus things got crazy. While we were on an instructional trip on the Upper Indus, the rains pumped up the rivers and many of the rain runoffs blocked the roads. Without our trusty Maggie (now called the Blue Monster) we wouldn`t have made it back into Leh. Pulling out army trucks from the muds and digging our way through many other slides, we finally reached a washed out section. roughly 80 people, locals and tourists, were standing and discussing about there way back to Leh or other options. Waying in the odds, i measured the actual width of the wheels and saw a small chance of about 3 cm left and right. Usually not a problem but, as the bridge was about to give away any moment, i had to speed over it! with only margins on both sides i gave it a try and made it through with the cheers and congratulations waiting on the other side. Back in town things didn`t calm down, the rain kept on coming and so did the landslides. I will try to update soon with some more infos of hopefully possible river runs.
